🧳 House Description

Framing the carved, wooden ‘centrepieces’, once main structural elements of an ancient Javanese residential housing typology, the roof becomes the contemporary framework without actually touching or utilising these elements.
Designed around a collection of three historic artefacts, the design TweensHouse seeks to explore the boundaries of contemporary architecture and traditional Indonesian building styles.
Skylights and a floating mezzanine level highlight the three artefacts as ‘objet trouvés’. The house wants to be experienced in a three dimensional way by meandering along a transparent gallery, around a collection of objects in space. It forms plateaus to create different perspectives through the living room towards the inside and the surrounding exterior landscape. The gorgeous three bedroom glass walled home is very private. Enclosed living area overlooks the river and lush tropical forest. Under the loft like living room are two master guest suites with bathrooms – accessed through a suspended spiral staircase. The master bedroom is situated on the westerly end, forming a separate entity overlooking the swimming pool.
The composition seeks to give space and wall space to an eclectic collection of art, photography, fine art, and a collection of design objects from mid century modern to traditional Balinese crafted wooden sculptures. The suspended ceiling is made from compressed bamboo fiber. All wooden floors are made from reclaimed teak wood. Transparent facades frame the buildings surroundings of lush the lush jungle of Bali.

🌳 Penjiwaan Community

The idea was to build a community of like minded individuals, a small intimate village of internationally acclaimed visionaries, artists, musicians, surfers, yogis and socially conscious entrepreneurs.
The homes are individually owned and designed, built around a central organic garden and gathering space. Numerous enterprises have already been incubated through impromptu brain storm gatherings of community members.
The architectural style of the homes range from minimalistic avant-garde, classic Balinese to a blend of the two. Two of the homes have already won international design acclaim.
Each home has been uniquely designed to meet the individual residents vision for their ideal work, play, retreat and entertainment requirements, some hosting recording studios, art studios, yoga studios, healing centers, basketball court and spas
As to our international tribe of residents, some live on the property full time and others as their work, travel and performances allow. Some of penjiwaan community members make properties available for visitors, guests, retreats and performances allowing for an interesting flow of new people and new ideas.
Penjiwaan is a place for gatherings, discussions, panels, showcases, music, yoga and meditation. A place for intimate and delectable dinners for the sharing of new ideas and cultures.
Penjiwaan will be the place to make new friends and nurture of old ones. If your journey brings you to this magic island, please come by and share your own magic with us

🕉 Ubud

The town of Ubud, in the uplands of Bali, Indonesia, is known as a center for traditional crafts and dance. The surrounding Ubud District’s rainforest and terraced rice paddies, dotted with Hindu temples and shrines, are among Bali’s most famous landscapes. Ancient holy sites include the intricately carved Goa Gajah (“Elephant Cave”) and Gunung Kawi, with its rock-cut shrines.
